Project Background

A large fossil fuel power generation facility was experiencing a variety of problems with exterior elements of a 600’+ tall reinforced concrete chimney.

As part of a major planned outage, PULLMAN was engaged to help design and build a solution to alleviate the challenges. The lower 156 feet of the existing carbon steel liner was demolished, and a new, larger diameter liner was installed which included two new breeching ducts and a liquid collection system. A new liner floor was also installed in addition to new platforms and ports.

A liner extension was built and flown by helicopter to the top of the chimney for installation. The new liner allowed for greater plume dispersion and reduced ice formation.

The project was designed and completed in eight weeks with zero safety incidents.
