The University of Alberta relies on a 54-inch diameter steel cylinder pipe to transfer fresh water from the Saskatchewan River for heating and cooling most of its infrastructure. When leaks were discovered in this essential pipe, a repair strategy needed to be implemented.
To address the issue, PULLMAN used STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES’ StrongPIPE® V-Wrap™ Carbon Fiber System. Crews applied five layers of this advanced material over a 300-foot section of the pipe. This repair not only fixed the leaks but also extended the pipe’s service life to 50 years.
