To revitalize downtown Reno, the Sands Regency Casino Hotel launched a $400 million renovation and rebranding initiative, transforming into J Resort & Casino under new ownership. The first phase included comprehensive updates, such as an overhaul of guest rooms, a redesign of the casino, and the addition of new facilities. Phase two introduced a unique feature: converting the top level of the parking structure into a dedicated car exhibition and display area, adding a one-of-a-kind attraction to the resort.
The addition of the car exhibition required the lower levels of the structure to support increased loads. STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES conducted a detailed analysis using modeling software and identified deficiencies in the existing slabs, including inadequate resistance to negative and positive flexure, as well as punching shear capacity under the new loads.
To address these issues, STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES designed cast-in-place concrete enlargements, incorporating drop panels at deficient column and shear caps for reinforcement. The team then supplied CSS V-Wrap™ Systems to strengthen the structure, effectively resisting both positive bending forces at mid-span and negative bending forces at the supports.
PULLMAN, an exclusive licensee of STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES, successfully implemented the repairs, increasing the load capacity while minimizing disruption to the resort’s operations.
